What is the NEET PG Examination?

Conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), NEET PG serves as the single national-level entrance gateway for medical graduates aiming to pursue postgraduate programs in India, including Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and PG Diploma courses.

The computer-based test (CBT) consists of 200 multiple-choice questions covering various subjects taught during the standard MBBS curriculum (such as Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, General Medicine, and Surgery). Candidates are given 3.5 hours to complete the exam. The marking scheme awards +4 marks for every correct answer, while imposing a -1 mark penalty for incorrect responses. Unanswered questions do not affect the score.

Where is the NEET PG Score Applicable?

Clearing NEET PG is a mandatory requirement for admission into nearly all postgraduate medical seats across India. The scores are primarily utilized for:

  • 50% All India Quota (AIQ) Seats
  • State Quota Seats across various Indian states
  • Admissions in Private Medical Colleges and Deemed Universities
  • Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) Institutions
Note: NEET PG is universally mandatory for PG medical admissions in India, with the exception of specific premier institutes like AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, and NIMHANS, which conduct their own respective entrance examinations.
